East Texas Area Agency on Aging District

Notice to File for Candidacy

To all eligible voters in the State of Texas, sixty years of age or older prior to the filing date for the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature (TSHL) election and residing in the East Texas Area Agency on Aging region, notice is hereby given that any qualified and interested voter may file for candidacy for membership in the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature.

TSHL members participate in all required and expected activities of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature at their own expense without compensation. Candidates must file a notice of candidacy with the said Area Agency on Aging during established business hours by February 28, 2023, at:

Due Notice of Election with voting information will be posted on March 14, 2023. Qualified voters of the named Area Agency on Aging may vote by Mail-in Ballots by April 18, 2023, or in person on April 28, 2023.

Free Benefits & Estate Planning Presentation Set for September 17

The Area Agency on Aging of East Texas is partnering with First Christian Church in Jacksonville to offer a free Benefits & Estate Planning Presentation for Seniors and Caregivers. The informative workshop will be held Thursday, September 17, from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Christian Church Sanctuary, 1920 Beaumont Street in Jacksonville. Presented by Paul Zambie, Managing Attorney with Texas Legal Services Center, the session will help attendees better understand legal and planning issues that can affect older adults and their families. Topics will include wills and trusts, deeds, transfer-on-death deeds, long-term care Medicaid, Medicaid estate recovery, and senior services. This free presentation is designed to give seniors and caregivers practical information to help prepare for life’s challenges and make informed decisions about the future.
